Description

English has 24 distinct consonant sounds. It's easy to think that we should teach each one, but there's a much better way! In this course, you will discover the underlying features of consonant production. We'll explore these features by category, learn how learners' native language (L1) consonants differ from English consonants, and master brain-based coaching techniques (such as back-building!) so that you can truly help your learners master tricky words and phrases.

What You Will Learn

Through your participation in this course, you will:

Discover the place and manner of consonant production.

Learn how to prioritize English learners' consonant errors

Explore English consonants through the use of categories that support effective instruction.

Identify key differences between English consonants and those of your learners' native languages (L1s)

Practice using strategies for helping learners master tricky words and phrases

Requirements

This Level 2 course is open to Color Vowel® Level 1 Trained Teachers or teachers taking a Color Vowel® Level 1 Practicum course currently or synchronously.
